We're Schizophrenic Moral Relativists

Listening to Danny Hodges of Calvary Chapel - St. Pete this morning on the way to work he explained the craziness in my head perfectly! It's because we as Christians are schizophrenic! Our new self is constantly in battle with the old!

This was in his sermon on Judges 17 & 18. In this he also brings up the fact that Israel during this time had the same problem that is infecting the church today. "Moral Relativism". Moral relativism says that morality is determined by the culture, by society. Because society is continually changing, there is no absolute right or wrong. The Israelites had no spiritual leaders at this time and it was a "do what ever feels right to you" situation. Sound familiar? Check out Judges 17:5-6,

5Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some idols and installed one of his sons as his priest. 6 In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.

He commits two disgressions against God in this verse:

1. Creates graven images.

2. Installed one of his sons as his personal priest. Micah was a Levite, but only sons of Aaron (in his direct lineage) could be High Priest. With his own personal priest he could dictate what exactly was right or wrong.

We need strong leaders to sprout up in our church and say, "Yes there is an absolute moral right and wrong!" It's all spelled out for us in His word. Unfortunately this "post-modern" phase we as a culture and some segments of the church are going through aren't so much into absolutes right now. We gotta make a change.

Danny's on WTBN 910 a.m. (Central Florida) mornings at 8! Check him out.......
