11/9/07 - Life Journal - To Judge the Quick and the Dead

"For He does not need to consider a man further,
That he should go before Him in judgement."
Job 34:23

Elihu is taking Job to task here. He says there is nowhere to hide, God knows and sees all so why is Job pleading his case and demanding an audience with the Father? His life is testimony for him and the minutiae of Job's every act is already known to Him that will judge him. By asking for a face to face, Job is actually adding to his sin by doubting God's omniscience.

Scary thought! When we are told we will stand before Him in judgement this doesn't mean a court-like setting like we are used to seeing. He will judge us quickly and definitively. Guilty or innocent. Life or death. Bam, just like that. Kind of makes you reconsider your lifestyle. Every little thing I do is known by Him. In 1 Corinthians 4:5 Paul reminds us, "...wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts..." There will be no, "Well, you see, I did that because........".

Lord, my future life with you is at stake. May the fear in you and the thought of being separated from you for eternity keep me in line.
