11/11/07 - Life Journal - The Temptations aren't just a 70's Funk Band

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13

There is nothing under the sun that is a new temptation for us. Somewhere somebody has gone or is going through the same things we are. In turn, there is nothing God has not seen or dealt with. Our problems often come when we try to do things ourselves when is is Him alone that can see us through. There is a wonderful promise in this verse, "He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability...He will also provide the way of escape."

There is a way out, but the verse doesn't promise that it will be easy. Problem with drinking? Don't go anywhere alcoholic beverages are served. Problems with eating? Fix every meal you eat at home (never, I repeat never, go to Golden Corral, Ryans, et al). Pornography? Never go on the computer when you're by yourself and cancel cable. Laziness? Have your wife make sure you're the only one with a key to the theater so you have to get your butt out of bed so the church can get set up. (wow, these are starting to sound familiar) I can beat anything! ...hold on... I can beat anything, with help from Him who gives me strength!

Lord, you are my ultimate account-a-bili-buddy! You'll know everything when I stand before you and boy won't I be embarrassed! (hopefully embarrassed is the only thing I'll be....)
