Mosaic jobs vs. the environment
How do we handle a situation like this. A corporation, Mosaic (formerly Cargill and IMC), that has been the lifeblood of central Florida along with the citrus industry verse environmental activists that do not take the human factor in mind when starting their crusades. I agree that past practices were devastating but this was a mindset that is archaic and hopefully forgotten. This new century will not stand for companies that are not sensitive to sustaining our wildlife and natural habitats and Mosaic realizes this.
Here's the problem. How can we continue putting the environment over human lives? I personally know many people that have lost their jobs over plant closings and this extends out of direct plant personnel to the engineers that are involved in the tasks to keep these plants running and up-to-date (including me). It's already much cheaper to mine and process the phosphate rock used in fertilizer production in other countries, mainly due to labor costs but also their lack of environmental protections.
So who wins? The workers that have been doing this for generations (aka the dying class called the American blue collar worker) and an entire industry or some wetlands and the Moroccan phosphate industry? Trust me, Mosaic wrapping up operations around here will be a bigger scar than using the mineral given to us here in Central Florida.
