8/12/07 - Life Journal - Faith Can Bring Miracles

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father."
John 14:12

Many believe miracles to be things of the past, used only to prove to the people that Jesus was the Messiah. The truth is those people had an incredible faith that we can't comprehend. People trusted in God explicitly and their faith brought about miracles.

The end of this great faith was probably due in part to the arrival of Martin Luther and the realization of the infallibility of the Catholic Church. When everyday people got their hands on the scripture and their church leaders turned out to be ordinary people just like them, a major change occurred. People started looking to themselves and this world for answers. The "Age of Enlightenment" widened the gap with people using the scientific method to prove everything in the realm of their own understanging. The mystery and awesomeness of God was gone.
