Life Journal - Righteous Nation

Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter;
The one that remains faithful. Isaiah 26:2

It wasn't an accident that Isaiah said "nation" not "people". Israel, like the U.S. now, had turned their back on God and this would lead them into captivity. Isaiah forsaw the turning back to God and was praising Him for keeping Israel under his protection even in their betrayal.

Our country is now in captivity. Materialism, greed, drugs, sex, political infighting. Our morals have gone down the crapper. The clothes departments for little girls look like you're getting ready to take them out clubbing. Terrorists are knocking at the door. Our reputation is shot around the world. Sounds like a big Bush conspiracy!

Yeah, sure. God is turning his eyes from us. Like "Most Favored Nation" status in global economics we were the light in this dark world, but have we lost it all? Sure, individuals are keeping the torch lit but if God's protection is stripped from us it's not going to be a very nice place to live.

so. god's protection and blessings of prosperity was with us when we destroyed the indigenous people on this continent and right up through the slavery of africans for hundreds of years.

but now, now is different.

we were the light in this dark world? please.

evangelical christians sorely lack perspective.

The pricipals that this country were built upon were great, on paper, but yes, the people back then were just as imperfect as I am. As a country we went through growing pains but I believe that for a time we were the light of this world. Our progress and regress is a perfect illustration of the bell curve. The civil rights movement, feminist movement, political correctness initiatives, freedom of speech lobby's and any other movements that were crucial for us in their infancy have been, like many good things, stretched passed the limits of common sense and are being abused. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, whatever one calls themselves, this should be obvious.

BTW, Jesus sent us out to spread His gospel, so being evangelical and a christ follower kind of go hand in hand, don't you think?
