Lord let me be like the Bereans.....

...The disputes in the church have become like the politics of the Republicans and Democrats. But this is not about running the country but something much more serious, handling the Word of God correctly...

The above was taken from a blog on Symphony of Scripture titled "Discernment and the Watchmen". Basically the post said we not only need to be practicing apologetics (explaining/defending our faith and Christianity to others) but also polemics (defending the Word of God within the Church). They use a term "Spiritually Correct" as being a sister of "Politically Correct" describing how some act today... "Don't rock the boat! Don't point out un-biblical teaching! We want a happy message, forget about all that bad stuff..." We are His watchman. Speak up!

We all should be like the Bereans. Like Jesus did with the Pharisees by going to the Old Testament to prove them wrong, the Bereans studied scripture to see if this "new craze" Paul was preaching was biblically sound. They didn't and we shouldn't assume anything is truth. If something doesn't quite ring true check it out. Go to His word. It could be the Spirit whispering in your ear.

Talk about God's mouth to my ear, I had just heard a sermon on the Bereans this morning by Danny Hodges from Calvary Chapel - St. Pete
