Lobstermania!

The Spiny Lobster 2 Day Mini Season officially kicked off this morning at 12:00a.m. and believe me, there were divers locked and loaded, ready to jump off at the first second. I personally have never been but it is on my list of must-do's! Here's a story from Yahoo!

Shark Fin Soup = Viagra

Well to some Asian's it seems. The practice of catching sharks for their fins and tossing the rest in the ocean has long been a controversial subject. Shark fin soup is supposedly an aphrodesiac. I think it is a disgusting practice. For one, sharks are desperately needed at the top of the marine food chain and mass fishing throws off the balance in our oceans. Two, if it's going to happen and we can't find a way to stop it why waste the rest of the shark? Their meat has obvious benefits to those that are starving to death around the world and their cartilage is being used in cutting edge cancer research. Now it seems our buddies at Yahoo! are unwittingly supporting this industry. (See Jen, I have a little bit of animal lover in me!)

The One that Got Away...

...the golfer that is. A 50 year old golfing in Venice, FL nearly lost his arm to an 11-fot alligator as he was reaching for his ball. He managed to get free using his other arm. The golfer said it seemed the gator let him go when he realized the colors on the golfers shirt did not actually represent the Florida State Seminoles. (no not really)

What do you mean Iwo Jima?

The Japanese government has changed the name of Iwo Jima to Imo To. Wow, that's clever, now we'll never remember their quest for Pacific domination. Read the whole story by clicking the pic.

NEVER FORGET

Lions and Tigers and ....Bobcats?

This morning on the way in I heard an incredible story of bravery, strength and fortitude. An amazing tale of a 62 year old man in Wesley Chapel taking on a Florida panther barehanded, keeping his grip on the animals throat until it was dead and the world was a safer place.

Well, that was almost true. I checked it out when I got to work and everything happened the way the DJ said, except that it was a bobcat, not a panther. Now I'm not saying that it is still not an incredible story. This was a crazed, rabid bobcat. His neighborhood is safer now. Just not as impressive, that's all.

You can read the whole story here.

(In the picture the bobcat looks like my old mittens stretched out taking a nap after I fed him a bluegill from the lake across the street)

Farewell Ruth

We'll see you soon!

I want to live in America!

Seems some people will still do anything to live in this awesome country of ours!

Like I need an example......

....to help prove Dr. MacArthur's point here's a recent news article out of Boulder, CO about a MANDATORY forum on world affairs held at a local high school in conjunction with the University of Colorado. This particular forum was entitled "STD's: Sex, Teens and Drugs".

This is what I have to deal with as a parent of three! When I was in school these things happened but we all new it was wrong. Now, you're not only saying it's not wrong, but encouraging kids to try it all, saying that it's only natural? Becoming a missionary in the back country of China is sounding better everyday.

If the article wasn't enough to get you motivated to do something about the moral decline of this country, check out the entire transcripts here.

News of the future..........Dateline June 1st.........Place Alaska........Thousand of Deadheads have gathered claiming mass visions of "Dancing Bears"........Await prophetic message from Jerry Garcia............

p.s. I felt old the other night when (young) friends of ours had no idea what the Grateful Dead dancing bears were.

I was just talking about this.......

Seriously, I just had a conversation with Sheri about the dumb way they introduce new stamps. I was thinking they could stop selling them at the old price but still accept any that have already been sold. I have to admit, their idea is better!

Gas Relief

I knew that title would get your attention! So this really isn't about rolaids but just as relevant.

Here's my plan to take a load of our wallets and hopefully crunch the oil companies a little bit.

Change our work week from 5 - 8 hour days to 4 - 10 hour days! Yes, there might be an alterior motive hear, namely 3 day weekends, but hey, I'll make the sacrifice! Just thinking small scale the numbers are amazing. How many people commute from Lakeland, FL to Tampa, FL everyday? I'm sure the amount is staggering. I drive 90 miles round trip, now multiply that times everyone else. That's tons of gas in just one fairly small commuting group!

Let's try it out for the summer, call your congressman, put it in the suggestion box at work. I'm convinced this would make a huge difference! Give the companies that go along with it a tax break, they'll jump right aboard!

Cracker Barrell pulls hamburgers.......

Better than E.Coli? - They're luck it wasn't the Country Fried Steak! What would I do without the county gravy? A man can not live on biscuits alone!
