Life Journals - Best Thing Since Biscuits and Gravy

My Life Journal is the best book I own next to the Bible itself! It will actually change your life. Never before have I dug this deeply into scripture. Developed by Wayne Cordeiro, pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Oahu, HI, this is more than just an old fashioned diary. The first thing you do is go to the bible reading plan and find the date. Next step is read the corresponding verses, noting any that grab you or all of a sudden become clear. If you do find a verse that has some meaning for you head over to the journal pages.

First:

1) Date the page
2) Come up with a memorable title (more on this later)
3) Number your page.

You'll now begin your entry using their program with the acronym S.O.A.P.

S - Scripture - Write out the verse verbatim, making sure to include the Book/Chapter/Verse.

O - Observation - What caught your mind and heart in this verse?

A - Application - In what ways can you apply anything you learned into your life?

P - Prayer - Write down a simple prayer, asking God to keep this new wisdom in you heart and help you apply any lessons from it.

The final step is going to the front of the Journal to the table of contents. As you will see, they are blank. Pop in the date, verse, clever name you came up with and the page number where it can be found! BAM, you now have your own devotional to look back upon in the future and to pass on to your children.

Speaking of children, there are 4 different versions. Child, Youth, New Believer and the standard Journal. If you are using your Journal as the focal point of your Life Group (or whatever you call your home groups) don't worry, all the versions will be centered around the same part of scripture each day, the only difference being the amount of reading done. The standard Journal is the only one that will get you through the entire bible in one year. Since everyone will be reading the same sections each week it really enhances the conversations as you share your insights and questions.

Last, but definitely not least, is a section for prayer requests. Fill in the request along with the date. As the days go by check on the list and see God working in your life as the prayers get answered. This is another great thing to share in your groups to encourage them as a whole.

This is an awesome tool. My wife, oldest daughter and I love it and get upset if we miss a day. Everyone should get one of these!

To read your daily scriptures go to New Hope Online Devotions.

8/1/07 Life Journal - Lord, Spare Your Servant

Thus says the Lord, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says,"Don not destroy it for there is benefit in it", So I will act on behalf of My servants in order not to destroy them all.
Isaiah 65:8

God shows His mercy for those Israelites that are His servants, even when punishing an entire kingdom, for he sees the good in them. A foreshadowing possibly of the followers of Christ joining the saints in heaven at the final tribulation. They are set apart from His judgement. Because of this we must constantly strive for Holiness and stay humbled at the feet of God so that we may be counted in the Book of Life. Lord, let me me good in Your sight so I may hear You say, "Well Done!"

Masters of the Monster Kits (Bozzio, Peart, Portnoy)

I just had to post some of these pics. I love the looks of a wall of drums. Bozzio is a one man orchestra, each drum tuned to a specific note. Here's the shots:

Terry Bozzio - DW Monster

Neil Peart - 30th Anniversary Tour Monster

Mike Portnoy - Siamese Monster

Now that is some serious gear!

Love God and Love Others

"At the height of the space race during the 1960’s, NASA took on the arduous job of finding a way to write in space. Normal pens wouldn’t work due to the zero gravity the astronauts would face in the space capsules. So scientists embarked on a way to solve the problem. They came up with the Astronaut Pen, after months of research and development, and at a cost of about $1 million. But after all that time and money had been invested NASA’s hard work paid off and they had a means of writing in space.

The Soviet Union also faced the task of writing in space. To solve this weighty problem, they used a pencil."

That is how John Martin, Vice President of Development for Next Level Worship, LLC, starts his article titled "Growing Your Church the Simple, Scriptural Way". Read the whole story at Next Level Worship. You won't regret it.

Well, this one was a no brainer, the pic was just too good to pass up!

Girls, why do you do it?

Modesty is dead!

Why, when our youth everywhere are supposedly taking pledges of purity and realizing the importance of waiting until marriage, is the modesty of young girls non-existent? And why arent' feminist organizations up in arms about the smut regularly turning up on kids, yes kids, personal webpages, ie. MySpace, etc.

It is completely getting out of hand. The world is a sick place, where sick people can hide behind their computer screens and become the kid down the street. The position you are putting yourselves in placing these revealing photos and videos of yourselves is extremely dangerous and in some cases has become deadly.

Is it self-esteem? Peer Pressure? Pride? Whatever it is, one thing I know is that this world is not going to help you. The message today and has been for a while is that "sex sells" but why are you selling yourselves? It makes me sick when I go shopping and can't find anything for my girls to wear! The doll of the decade for girls has been the Bratz collection, the role models have been Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson. I know it's tough.

But find solace in the fact that God has known you since before you were born and loves you like no other. Remove yourselves from bad friendships/relationships, suggestive music, the trash on tv, whatever it takes to break you out of this cycle of self-deprecation and immodesty. Your body is God's temple. Glorify Him with your inner beauty for now and by saving yourselves for Him and your future husband. Sex in itself is not bad, nothing from God is. But He reserved the pleasures of it for a married couple, dedicated to each other, when it can be a true blending of two spirits into one and the instrument of creating new life. I'll reiterate the quote from my past blog, "Christian's misery is temporary, Non-Christians pleasures are temporary".

OK, I admit it, we guys as a group, are completely messed up as well. Add onto that all the macho crap and we can literally be dangerous. Don't put up with us. Get away from us if we're pressuring you to do anything you don't want or are violent in any way. There are good guys out there and don't just go by someone saying they're Christian.

I like the Barlow Girls stance. Enjoy your youth, don't mess it up dealing with high school crushes and all the hate and jealousy that go along with them. Spend your time with a good group of friends, get involved in school and church, save the relationship hassle when your minds are mature enough to handle the baggage that comes along with it. Study the word of God and get closer to the one who loves you and wants only good in your life.

OK, got off on a tangent, here's just one thing that has happened from posting pic's of oneself on the net. Luckily it turned out as just a horrible embarresment and nothing worse. The thing is the picture is completely tame compared to what girls are posting of themselves now. Here's the pic:

The picture was posted by a 14 year old girl. A few years later it was scabbed of the net by and x-rated video company and used on the cover of one of their videos! Here's the whole story.

Here are some verses I found, I don't know if they're helpful or not, but I hope they are.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor — not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and His ways........God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives His Holy Spirit to you.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

Create pure thoughts in me and make me faithful again.
Psalm 51:10

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
1 Peter 1:14-16

Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure.
1 Timothy 5:22

How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I'm single-minded in pursuit of you; don't let me miss the road signs you've posted. I've banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won't sin myself bankrupt.
Psalm 119:9-11 The Message

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Cor 10:13

It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
1Thes 4:3

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
2 Tim 2:15

7/31/07 Life Journal - Transformers

Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water", so they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter", so they took it to him.
John 2:7,8

We all know what happened next, the water was transformed into wine, the best wine! If we listen to Jesus' instructions and follow them to the letter as the waiters did, we can become transformed men, the best men! We have to continually keep our ears open and our mind on His word so we can know his instructions and learn to follow Him. Lord, transform us.

7/30/07 Life Journal - Our Simple Instructions

Nathaniel said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?", Phillip said to him, "Come and see."
John 1:46

That's it! The instructions given to us by Jesus broken down to their simplest equation. "Come and see". Our job is to love God, know God and live in a way that glorifies God so that others will desire to do the same. Plant the seed and the Spirit will bring the rain. Lord, don't let us complicate your message.

7/29/07 Life Journal - Death of the Righteous

The righteous man perishes and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, he enters his peace.
Isaiah 57:1

Why does God take away good people before we feel it was their time? No man can understand this, or take it to heart. A question that only God himself can possibly answer but this verse helps some. As a Christ follower, being taken away from this earth and it's sin, to enter ones rest is a glorious occasion. The Lords hand saving us from sin, pain, evil, corruption, sadness, etc. Not such a great thing for the loved ones left but keeping this in mind should help some. Those departed are safe, free from pain, the tears wiped from their eyes. Pray for wisdom, so we can better discern His word, keeping our mind open to glimpses inside His plan for us.

7/28/07 Life Journal - The Good Steward

Why do you spend money for what is not bread? And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is good and delight in abundance.
Isaiah 55:2

As good stewards, we must be careful to spend our earnings, given to us by God, only on things (bread) that glorify His name. If we don't go after earthly treasure that will only rust we will share with Him in the abundant buffet in Heaven. Also, blowing our wages on materialistic things that do not satisfy leaves us without the means to give to those in need and those spreading his Gospel, in turn taking away from His glory and stealing from the hand that blessed us. Pray for self control and wisdom in your finances.

7/19/07 Life Journal - The Unrighteous Nation

He (Hoshea, King of Israel) did evil in the sight of the Lord, only not as the kings of Israel who were before him. shalmaneser, king of Assyria, came up against him and Hoshea became his servant and paid him tribute. But the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea, who had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and had offered no tribute to the king of Assyria as he had done year by year, so the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.
2 Kings 17:2-4

Shalmaneser would go on to invade Israel (the northern kingdom) and this would eventually lead to their captivity in Assyria and the end of the kingdom. Hoshea not only practiced the customs of invading armies, he paid tribute to earthly kings instead of turning to his Lord for protection. Under his reign, his people continued their blasphemous ways that led to their downfall.

Arrogantly maintaining the we can do it all for ourselves is a dangerous road to travel. God will let us try, and the consequences will be devastating. Pray that God will let us be a part of a great revival in our country and around the world.
